"I
begin my craft with a grounding in the ancient traditions of book-binding,
coupled with a modern approach to materials. My Coptic Stitch have
an exposed spine stitching, and those journals are designed to lay
flat. The covers are created with fine bookcloth and paper, or from
Polymer Clay, which is flexible and light weight. My traditionally
bound books are a pleasure to hold. They are made from exquisite
leather and decorative or hand-marbled paper. All books are bound
by hand, from start to finish. Pages are 100% cotton rag, acid-free
and handsewn, not glued, so that your book will last a lifetime."
-Ann Kingman,
Massachusetts.
"My goal
is to create an object that enchants
the user, and that summons the writer,
the artist, and the thinker that reside within each of us. Whether you
choose a journal as a gift or for personal use, to write or to sketch,
you may be assured that it was made with the utmost care."-Ann Kingman.
Personalizing
Your Book...
Ann
can customize her books
to meet customers' specific needs for size or color. Marbled and
Decorative Paper journals may be created in just about any size
and to coordinate with any color scheme. You may choose your own
combination of hand-marbled or decorative papers, bookcloth, and
leather -- or the artist can create covers from your own fabric!
For other possibilities, a translucent flyleaf can be added with
names and events of the special occasion within the handmade book.
Rebinding
Your Cherished Books...
If
you have a favorite book that could use a new look, Ann will be
happy to help. Your book can be rebound in a Traditional style,
with bookcloth, paper, and/or leather covers. Some books may be
able to rebound in the Coptic style binding. Simply request the
cover style desired along with a description of the book (current
binding type and condition, number of pages and approximate age)
and she will provide a price quote to suit your special needs. *Please
note that she will not rebind very valuable or priceless books,
or fully restore the interior of destroyed pages. Her rebinding
consists of stabilizing the text pages by resewing or gluing, and
then rebinding with a new cover of your preference.
